What are potential ways forward to overcome the problem of an ageing workforce in your company?
There are 4 potential ways forward to overcome the problem: Codification of critical knowledge, retaining older workers through alternative working arrangements, coexistences of a multigenerational workforce, and provide new opportunities for new skills to be learnt by people changing careers.
Codification of critical knowledge
Codification involves taking tacit knowledge and turning it into explicit knowledge. This will be the primary way forward that I would recommend. Ernest and Young has a ‘brain drain’ means that they have too much tact knowledge and not enough explicit knowledge. A knowledge audit will show the gaps that need to addresses by this issue. Tools that can be used are: Knowledge Map, Decision Table, Decision Tree, Frames, Production Rules, Case-based Reasoning (CBR), Knowledge-Based Agents.
