The Power of Failure
Why did I choose failure as a topic? When you ask someone normally on whom he or she is, they tell you their success stories and achievements. It makes them feel good about themselves and puts you down. I know I have failed this speech already. I suck at public speaking. If you have not realized that yet, you must be sleeping. I hope that I receive 1 out of 10 as my score, so I can be proud that I have started from the bottom of the mountain. That way the only way to improve is upwards on my public speaking journey.
My biggest life failure has been my speech. I didn’t start walking till I was 24 months old. I didn’t start talking to I was 3 years old. The doctors told my parents that I had a low muscle syndrome and I would need special care for the rest of my life. I was not the normal infant. Thanks to my mum taking me to see a speech pathologist in the mater hospital every work day for 5 years my speech has improved but still not good enough for the public community. I have been teased while I was at primary and high school for my speech and got into many fights at school because of it. I gave a bully a xmas card and the message inside was: “I wish when you open up your xmas present from santa a bomb goes off in your face.” This was my retaliation back at the bully in the form of a secret santa. I got in trouble for that. But my parents were proud for me to stand up for myself.
