Personal Growth with Change

I watched a TED talk this morning called: Smart failure for a fast-changing world: (Obeng, 2012). The key message is that in the past, all CEO’s want stability and no innovation, and in today’s world that has completely changed, and being different is accepted, to a degree. If you create a new project in the company and is completely revolutionary and you fail, then you should get rewarded the most, versus the guy whom is successful doing the standard project. Why? Because the company has learnt something new that the reason for the failure could have just been bad market timing. Even though you can’t put it on your resume. This is comes back to the mindset of the leader in the organisation, whether or not you still have a job in the organisation after the failure of this radical new project.

The guest speaker Eddie from TED believes in the rapid change of the new world that is the 21st century we are living in. I think to myself, how much have I changed in the last 12 years? How much will I change in the future? Is this MBA program going to have a huge impact on my life? I think back to when I started the course, and thinking about Grant’s Lecture on OB and the four frames, and after I got my marks back from the course and getting 51.5% wondering whether I will complete this program or will it get the better of me. I say to myself “Look at me now”!
