Change Your Words, Change Your Life
There was a link on LinkedIn about “Change your works, Change your Life” (Robbins, 2012), and as I was doing a subject on change management, I thought it would be appropriate to use for this for my journal. This blog was really fascinating, as it talks about leaders using the power of words to inspire change within people. I thought this was really powerful and made me think about my use of my vocabulary skills during every day life. The blog made reference that there are 500,00 words in the English language and humans have a working vocabulary of only 2,000 words or only .5%. This was mind blowing to me. I couldn’t believe that. So I thought, how can I improve my vocabulary for telling Lizzie that, “I loved her”. So I had a look on thesaurus.com and entered in “Loved One” and it came back with a whole heap of terms that I could use, as an expression of love. A few examples were: Dear, Saint, Apple of one’s eye, cherished one, angel, beloved, darling, dearest, light of one’s life, object of one’s affections, sweetheart.
The blog also talks about “Transformational Vocabulary” as a way to change your negative feelings in your life, and turn down the intensity to the level where your feelings no longer have control over yourself. I thought to myself, “ This knowledge will help me talk the heat out of any argument in life, and help myself move on.”
