Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, what a beautiful day this is! For those who don’t know me, I’m John Theron, and I have the incredible honour of being Kevin’s best man.

First off, I’d like to say a massive congratulations to Kevin and Melinda. Looking at you two today, surrounded by all the people who love you, it’s clear that this is the start of something truly special.

Now, I’ve known Kevin for quite a while, and I’ve got to say, I’ve never seen him smile as much as he does when he’s with Melinda. But before I embarrass him too much — and don’t worry, that’s definitely coming — let me take you back to where our friendship began.

Picture this: Brisbane City Indoor Sports. I walk in, ready for a game of indoor soccer, and I spot this short, fast guy zipping around the field like a juiced-up koala. That, ladies and gentlemen, was Kevin.

On the field, Kevin was a force of nature — short in stature but long on crazy. He’d be darting here and there, leaving defenders spinning in circles. But the moment he stepped off that field? It was like someone hit a switch. Suddenly, he was this calm, collected guy you could have a relaxed chat with. It was like watching Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, except instead of a potion, all it took was a soccer ball.

We ended up playing together for over a decade. In that time, we went through four grand final victories and four losses. But you know what…
